Dennis Wetzel, consultant at EOS Holding’s Corporate Development department, on EOS and its Corporate Development department.

After my degree in Business Studies and various placements with banks and consultancies in Germany and abroad, I took a post as an M&A consultant with a firm of management consultants. I was introduced to EOS by a recruitment consultancy. The positive and friendly atmosphere at the interview, the interesting job description and the opportunity to help shape the growth of a dynamic company in the midst of the economic crisis made up my mind straight away. And so in March 2009 I joined the Corporate Development department at EOS.

My first project at EOS involved setting up a start-up, in the form of a joint venture, in the field of e-commerce. A team of three founders needed a strategic investor to make their business idea a reality, and EOS turned out to be the ideal partner. Once the EOS Board of Directors had given the go-ahead, the project quickly took off. We (the project team, consisting of a project manager and me) developed and refined the business model in close collaboration with the team of founders, starting with ideas sketched out on a flipchart, and finishing up with a complex business case, a fully fledged business plan and a large number of presentations for the various decision-making bodies at EOS and Otto. It was an amazing experience for me to be able to follow a complete start-up project from the initial outline idea all the way to the signing before the notary.

Usually though, in Corporate Development, you don’t work on just a single project, but on three or four projects at the same time. These might be M&A projects, in which Corporate Development looks into acquisition opportunities in Germany and all over the world, and manages and carries out the resulting transaction processes. Strategic projects to optimize existing business models, broaden the spectrum of services on offer or explore completely new business models for the EOS Group are also initiated and implemented by Corporate Development.

Apart from the fact that the work itself is so fascinating, it is also a pleasure to work with my colleagues in Corporate Development. We have a young, dynamic team of highly qualified and motivated colleagues and managers working in a relaxed atmosphere of close cooperation, where everyone enjoys their work as they pursue the common goal of continued growth for the EOS Group.

For anyone who is keen not only to seize the opportunities offered by a growing company, but also to be actively involved in shaping its growth, and to take pleasure from his or her work as part of a highly motivated team, I can wholeheartedly recommend EOS as an employer. And what is more, you get to work in Hamburg, the finest city in the world.
